1st anniversary of Actualitica

By Matija Šerić

Day by day, week by week, month by month—and a year has gone by. A few days ago, on April 7th to be precise, Actualitica.com celebrated its first anniversary. It has been a year since I published my first article and since my research-analytical media project began its journey. It is a journey full of uncertainty, dynamics, twists, and unexpected events. There are many obstacles along the way, but also a strong desire to overcome them.

In the introductory article “Welcome to the World of Actualitica,” I explained the mission, vision, and purpose of the portal. I won’t be repetitive and go over the same points again. However, in short, it is worth reiterating that the goal of Actualitica is to explore, with a cool head and in a rational and sober manner, both popular and overlooked topics that other media tend to ignore. And it’s not just about politics, but also history, economics, society, culture, and sports. Each of these fields deserves to be covered objectively. Unfortunately, more than 90 percent of the media are aligned with one side or another and are more than biased. Fortunately, Actualitica is not one of them.

That is why I often say it is the only truly objective media outlet in Croatia—and beyond. After five months, on September 10th last year, the project expanded with the launch of the Actualitica Podcast. It would be unfair to say that all guests are objective, but the advantage of my podcast is that I bring in people of all profiles and worldviews, tackling taboo and “forbidden” topics that others avoid. Both left-wing and right-wing voices are invited and given the opportunity to present their narratives.

The results? In one year, my colleagues and I have published over 400 original articles and interviews, and I have recorded around 30 podcast episodes over a seven-month period. Too much or too little? In my opinion—exactly as much as needed. It’s important not to forget that all content has been created on a voluntary basis, driven by belief in a higher goal—truth, justice, and faith in a better tomorrow.

Article views are counted in the hundreds, podcast views in the thousands, and short video views sometimes even exceed 100,000. The number of followers on Facebook has surpassed 6,000, and on YouTube it is about to exceed 9,000 in the coming days. Is that a success? In my view, absolutely—especially considering the limitations surrounding the advertising of political content.

Of course, the amount of content could be much greater if Actualitica were monetized, and whether that will happen depends on you and potential sponsors. You can always support our work with a donation to the following account: HR9123400093111710673. It is not mandatory, but it is appreciated. Thank you for all the donations so far.

Let’s be aware that we are still in the early stages of Actualitica’s development (this is just the beginning), and it will take time for this project to gain full momentum. The direction is clear—creating content that defends truth and encourages critical thinking. The wheel of fortune has begun to turn and keeps moving forward. Stay with us, because every day my colleagues and I are preparing something new… Cheers!
